Choose the work the deck actually needs

Separate a defined repair, replacement of walking boards and a full structural rebuild before comparing deck estimates.

Repair a defined component

Repair addresses an identified problem, such as a damaged board, railing connection or stair component. The surrounding condition matters because the visible defect can be only part of the issue.

The scope should explain why limited work is suitable and which areas remain outside it. Cleaning or stain should follow the condition decision rather than conceal it.

Redeck suitable retained framing

Redecking removes and renews the walking surface while retaining assessed structural parts. The chosen board product must suit the remaining layout, or necessary support changes need to be included.

Rail and stair replacement can be coordinated with the surface. State each retained and replaced component so the new appearance does not imply an entirely new structure.

Rebuild the structure

Full replacement addresses the agreed structural rebuilding project. It can include removal, disposal, new supports, framing, house-connection work, boards, rails and stairs.

Some existing components may be reusable after assessment, but their retention should be explicit. A changed footprint or planned roof can alter what is suitable.

Use symptoms to start the discussion

Describe movement, soft areas, damaged connections and changes in the way the deck functions. Approximate size, height and photographs give useful context.

Photos cannot certify structural safety. An appropriate assessment and design are needed to determine which project serves the condition and intended result.
